In order to improve the fiberizability of A95 aluminumsilicon sol, the influence of polyvinyl alcohol with various mass fraction and polymerization degree on the fiberizability of aluminumsilicon sol was researched. The viscosity, rheological property, microstructure and infrared spectrum of the sol, the diameter and distribution scope of the gel fibers, as well as the BET specific surface area and pore diameter distribution of the fiber were measured. The results show that without any fiberizing agent, the gel has no fiberizability. When the mass fraction of PVA2099 is in the range of 1.0% to 2.0%, the produced gel fibers are thinner and uniform, and the slag is less. When the mass fraction of PVA2099 is 2.0%, the BET specific surface area and gas volume adsorbed achieve the maximum values. However, when the mass fraction of PVA2099 reaches 4.0%, the gel fibers are thicker and nonuniform, and the slag content is higher. With increasing the polymerization degree of PVA, the diameter and distribution scope of the gel fibers increase gradually. When the polymerization degrees of PVA are 1799 and 1899 respectively, the fabricated gel fibers are thin and uniform.
